Bank statement import not working in LUME Hub Finance: causes and fixes

Updated

Quick answer

When a bank statement won't import in LUME Hub, the usual causes are: no bank account selected, a file that was already imported, a format other than OFX, CSV or PDF, or a statement that was imported but not confirmed yet. Transactions only reach your cash book after you review them and click Confirm on the Statements tab.

If your bank statement didn't import, or imported but never showed up in cash, the reason almost always appears in a message on screen. Below are the real causes, from most to least common. The full walkthrough is in how to import an OFX bank statement.

The menu is in English, but the messages inside Finance are in Portuguese; each one is quoted below with its meaning.

The statement imported but isn't in cash

This is the most common case, and it isn't an error. Nothing goes into cash on its own: after the file is read, the statement waits for your review on the Extratos (Statements) tab. Open it, check the lines and click "Confirmar" (Confirm). On confirm, lines already in cash ("Já estavam no caixa") are only linked, not duplicated, and lines marked "Não é caixa" (Not cash) are left out.

No bank account selected

A statement needs an account. In the import dialog, pick the account under Conta bancária (Bank account) or type the name of a new one. Until you do, the choose file button stays disabled, and LUME Hub says "Escolha ou crie uma conta bancária antes." (Choose or create a bank account first.)

"Este arquivo já foi importado" (This file was already imported)

LUME Hub recognizes the same file so your cash isn't doubled:

  • If it's awaiting review, the message says it's already waiting, and LUME Hub opens that statement so you can finish.
  • If it was already confirmed, its transactions are already in cash. To upload it again, open the statement and click "Desfazer importação" (Undo import) first.

"Não reconheci este arquivo" (File not recognized)

The file isn't OFX, CSV or PDF, or its content doesn't look like a bank statement. Download the statement from your bank again, preferably as OFX, and upload it without opening or editing it first. Excel spreadsheets need to be saved as CSV.

"Não consegui importar" (Couldn't import)

The file was recognized but reading it failed. The line under the title explains why. Try downloading the same statement in another format or for a shorter period.

The import stopped halfway

If the review says the import was only partly saved ("A importação ficou pela metade"), not every line made it. The screen tells you not to confirm it: click "Descartar extrato" (Discard statement) and upload the file again.

The totals don't match

In the review, a notice says the read doesn't match the statement totals ("A leitura não fecha com os totais do extrato"), with the reason underneath. Before confirming, compare the lines with your bank statement, look for missing or repeated transactions and, if needed, discard and import again. When the file has no totals or transaction IDs (common with CSV), the notice says the format doesn't allow automatic checking ("Este formato não permite conferência automática"): the review is fully up to you.

An account's balance doesn't show up

If the account was set up as a technical account ("Conta técnica"), it stays out of the month balance while the filter is on real accounts only. Switch the filter to all accounts ("Todas as contas") or to that account. More on accounts and entries in how to track income and expenses.

Frequently asked questions

I imported the statement and the month balance didn't change. Why?

Because the statement is still waiting for review. Open the Statements tab, check the lines and click “Confirmar” (Confirm). Only then do the transactions go into cash and the balance.

How do I re-import a statement I already confirmed?

Open it on the Statements tab and click “Desfazer importação” (Undo import). After that, you can upload the same file again.

Can I upload an Excel spreadsheet (XLSX)?

No. The accepted formats are OFX, CSV and PDF. If you have a spreadsheet, save it as CSV in Excel or Google Sheets and upload the CSV.
