How to set up LAWD Mail on iPhone, Android and Outlook with an app password
Updated
Quick answer
To use LAWD Mail on your phone or in Outlook, click “Usar no celular” (Use on your phone) and “Gerar senha de app” (Create app password). In your mail app, add an “Other” or IMAP account with your @lawd.me and that password. Incoming: mail.lawd.me, port 993, SSL/TLS. Outgoing: mail.lawd.me, port 465, SSL/TLS.
LAWD Mail works in the iPhone Mail app, on Android and in Outlook over IMAP and SMTP, the standard every mail app supports. The only difference from the browser is the password: the app uses an app password, created in LAWD Mail itself. This tutorial shows how to create one and where to enter the settings on each device.
Where to create the app password
On a computer, "Usar no celular" (Use on your phone) sits below the folders at mail.lawd.me. On a phone (or anywhere), click your photo, choose "Configurações da conta" (Account settings) and then "Usar no celular (senha de app)". The "Usar no celular" window has the "Gerar senha de app" (Create app password) button.
The password is shown only once: copy it right away with the copy icon. The window also lists the servers:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Username | your full @lawd.me address |
| Incoming (IMAP) | mail.lawd.me · 993 · SSL/TLS |
| Outgoing (SMTP) | mail.lawd.me · 465 · SSL/TLS |
| Calendar and contacts | server mail.lawd.me |
Step by step
- At mail.lawd.me, open "Usar no celular" (Use on your phone) and click "Gerar senha de app" (Create app password). Copy the password.
- On iPhone: open Settings, go to Mail and Accounts (on newer iOS: Settings, Apps, Mail, Mail Accounts), tap Add Account, choose Other, then Add Mail Account.
- On Android: in the Gmail app, tap your photo, then Add another account and choose Other; in Samsung Email, add an account and pick manual setup. Choose IMAP or Personal (IMAP).
- In Outlook: add an account with your @lawd.me and, if it asks for the account type, choose IMAP.
- Enter your name, your full @lawd.me address and the app password (not your account password).
- If the app asks for servers, use mail.lawd.me, port 993 with SSL/TLS for incoming and mail.lawd.me, port 465 with SSL/TLS for outgoing. The username is your full @lawd.me for both.
- Save. Your Inbox shows up in the app within moments.
Menu names change between iPhone, Android and Outlook versions. If you can't find "Other", look for IMAP or manual setup.
Calendar and contacts on your phone
The same app password syncs LAWD Calendar over CalDAV (https://mail.lawd.me/dav/cal) and Contacts over CardDAV (https://mail.lawd.me/dav/card). On iPhone, under Add Account, Other, choose Add CalDAV Account and Add CardDAV Account with the server mail.lawd.me. The calendar walkthrough is in how to sync LAWD Calendar on iPhone and Android.
When it won't connect
Make sure you used the app password, that the username is your full address and that security is set to SSL/TLS (not STARTTLS) on ports 993 and 465. If it still fails, create a new app password. To understand why LAWD Mail uses IMAP, see IMAP vs POP3: what's the difference.
Frequently asked questions
Why can't I use my regular password on my phone?
Your phone's mail app and Outlook sign in with an app password, created in LAWD Mail just for them. Your account password keeps working only in the browser.
I lost my app password. What now?
It's shown only once and can't be viewed again. Click “Gerar senha de app” (Create app password) again and use the new one on your device.
What are the LAWD Mail ports?
IMAP (incoming) at mail.lawd.me, port 993, SSL/TLS. SMTP (outgoing) at mail.lawd.me, port 465, SSL/TLS. The username is your full @lawd.me address.
Do my calendar and contacts sync too?
Yes. With the same app password, add CalDAV (https://mail.lawd.me/dav/cal) and CardDAV (https://mail.lawd.me/dav/card) with the server mail.lawd.me.
