Why isn't Prospector finding new businesses on Google Maps?

Updated

Quick answer

Prospector shows no new businesses when every result is already in your lead base or when the no-website filter leaves them all out. Change the city, neighborhood or niche, or switch the filter to all businesses. If you get an error, read the message: each one has a different cause and fix.

Prospector searches Google Maps for businesses by niche and city and only brings the ones that aren't in your lead base yet. When a search comes back empty or with an error, the on-screen message tells you why. The messages are in Portuguese; each one is listed below with its English meaning, from most to least common.

"Nenhuma empresa nova" (no new businesses)

The full message is "Já verificamos N resultados do Google. Troque a cidade ou o nicho." (we checked N Google results; change the city or niche). It means the search worked, but no business passed the filters:

  • They're all in your base already. Prospector checks up to 60 Google results per search and skips the ones you have. Small cities and narrow niches run out fast.
  • The filter left them all out. With "Só empresas sem site próprio" (only businesses without their own website) on, businesses with a website are excluded. Click the button to switch to "Todas as empresas" (all businesses) and search again.

What to do: try a neighboring city, add the neighborhood next to the city or use a variation of the niche, written the way people in Brazil search on Google.

"Preencha nicho e cidade" (fill in niche and city)

Search needs both fields. Type the kind of business in Nicho, the city name in Cidade and check the state in UF.

Few or odd results

Prospector searches Google for "niche in city, state", in Brazil only. If the state doesn't match the city, or the niche is phrased in a way nobody uses on Google, results will be weak. Write the niche the way a customer would search on Maps.

"Limite de consultas do Google atingido" (Google query limit reached)

Google limits how many searches can run in a short time. Wait a few minutes and try again.

"Este módulo não está liberado para o cliente" (module not enabled)

Your account, or the client account you're viewing, doesn't have Prospector in its plan. Check plans in the Account and billing section or talk to whoever manages your Hub.

"Sessão inválida ou expirada" (invalid or expired session)

Your Hub session expired. Sign out, sign back in and run the search again.

Other Google error messages

Messages like "O Google recusou a consulta" (Google refused the query) or "Falha na consulta ao Google Maps" (Google Maps query failed) point to a server-side problem, not your search. Try again later and, if it keeps happening, contact LUME support with the message text.

Frequently asked questions

Will running the same search again bring new businesses?

Only if Google shows businesses that aren't in your lead base yet. Prospector skips the ones you already have, so the same search tends to bring fewer each time. Vary the city, neighborhood or niche.

I deleted a lead. Can it come back in a new search?

Yes, if it shows up again in Google's results. The search only skips businesses that are in your lead base at the time of the search.

I don't see Search in the menu. Why?

Prospector is a plan module. If it isn't enabled on your account, the Search, Pipeline and My leads screens don't appear in the Sales app.
