What are LUME Hub Instagram automations and how do they work?
Updated
Quick answer
LUME Hub Instagram automations reply on their own to DMs and comments that contain a keyword you choose. Each rule sends a DM, an optional public comment reply and up to 3 link buttons. When no rule matches, a backup AI can answer in your tone. Every event is logged in the history screen.
Instagram automations are the LUME Hub app that answers on your profile while you work: someone comments "price" on a post and gets the link in their DMs; someone messages "hours" and gets the answer right away. If you are looking for a ManyChat-style comment-to-DM tool built into your dashboard, this guide covers who it is for, every screen and how to get started.
The automation screens currently show their labels in Portuguese, so each label below is quoted as it appears on screen, followed by its meaning.
What do Instagram automations do?
Automations read the DMs and comments of the connected account and reply when the text matches a keyword you picked. Each rule can:
- send a DM reply (on a comment, it goes out as a private reply to the person who commented);
- post a public reply to the comment, such as "Just sent you a DM!";
- include up to 3 link buttons inside the DM;
- require a follow before the reply is released.
When no rule matches, Resposta com IA (reserva) ("backup AI reply") can answer in your tone if you turn it on. The safeguards that prevent repeated replies are described further down.
Who it is for
It is for anyone who gets the same questions over and over on Instagram ("how much?", "where are you?", "send me the link") and wants to answer fast without living on their phone. It also powers "comment WANT and I'll DM you" campaigns: people comment and receive the material in their inbox.
The Regras ("Rules") and Histórico ("History") screens are part of the Complete plan. Publicações ("Posts") and Conexões ("Connections") open on any plan with a feature that uses Instagram.
The screens
In the dashboard menu, the Automações ("Automations") group has four screens:
| Screen | What it does |
|---|---|
| Publicações (Posts) | The queue of posts the Hub publishes to Instagram: scheduled, published, failed and canceled. |
| Conexões (Connections) | Links your Instagram account to the Hub, shows the connection status and disconnects it. |
| Regras (Rules) | Creates keyword auto replies and sets up the backup AI. |
| Histórico (History) | Shows every DM and comment that came in and what the automation replied. |
Opening /dashboard/automacoes takes people who have the automations module straight to Rules; everyone else lands on Posts.
How a reply is chosen
When a comment or a message arrives, the Hub follows this order:
- It looks for an active rule with the right trigger ("Só DM" = DMs only, "Só comentário" = comments only, "DM e comentário" = both) whose keyword matches the text. If several match, the one with the highest Prioridade ("Priority") wins.
- If no rule matches and the backup AI is on, the AI replies by DM, within the daily limit you set.
- If nothing replies, the event shows up in History as "Ignorado" ("Ignored").
The Hub skips messages and replies made by the connected account itself, never answers the same comment twice, and stops replying to a person who got 8 automatic replies within 10 minutes, so it can't get stuck in a loop with another bot.
How to get started
- Connect Instagram under Automações → Conexões with a professional account. See how to connect Instagram to LUME Hub.
- In the Instagram app, turn on Settings → Messages and story replies → Message controls → Allow access to messages. Without it, DM replies are not delivered.
- Create your first rule. For comment campaigns, follow how to auto-DM people who comment on Instagram. For DM questions, see how to set up an Instagram DM auto reply.
- Optionally, turn on the backup AI: how to turn on AI replies for Instagram DMs.
- Test with another account and check the result in how to check your Instagram automation history.
Scheduled Instagram posts
The Posts screen does not create posts: it tracks what was scheduled from CAPI AI, Videos or the LUME Office. From there you can publish right away, change the time or cancel. See how to manage scheduled Instagram posts.
When something doesn't work
A paused rule, a keyword with different accents, an expired connection or message access turned off are the most common causes. The full list, with what History shows for each, is in Instagram auto reply not working. For Cockpit Social and the other networks, see the Presence section.
Frequently asked questions
Which plan includes Instagram automations?
The Rules and History screens are part of the Complete plan. The Posts and Connections screens open on any plan that includes a feature using Instagram, such as Cockpit Social or CAPI AI.
Does it work with a personal Instagram account?
No. The account must be a professional account, either Creator or Business. To reply in DMs you also need to turn on “Allow access to messages” in the Instagram app settings.
Can I limit a rule to one specific post?
No. There is no post picker: a comment rule applies to comments on any post of the connected account whenever the text matches the keyword.
Does the AI reply publicly to comments?
No. The backup AI only replies by DM, or by the private reply to a comment. Public replies come only from rules, when you fill in the public reply field.
