How to use the waiting room and host controls in LUME Hub meetings
Updated
Quick answer
In LUME Hub meetings, the host runs the room from the Participants panel: under Aguardando (Waiting), admit or decline new arrivals, and in the list, mute or remove anyone. More options has Trancar sala (Lock room), which blocks new people, and Encerrar para todos (End for everyone), which disconnects everyone and closes the meeting.
Whoever creates the meeting is the host and gets controls other participants don't: approving people, muting and removing them, locking the room and ending the meeting. This guide shows where each control lives. To create a room with the waiting room on, see How to create a video meeting link in LUME Hub.
The meeting screens still show Portuguese labels when the app is set to English, so each label below comes with a translation.
Step by step
- In Minhas reuniões (My meetings), click Entrar (Join) on the meeting card while signed in. You join as the host, with no waiting room.
- When someone arrives, open Participantes (Participants), from the meeting bar or Mais opções (More options). The Aguardando (Waiting) section lists who's waiting and how many.
- Click Admitir (Admit) next to a name to let the person in, or Recusar (Decline) to turn them away.
- In the participant list, use Silenciar (Mute) to turn off someone's mic and Liberar microfone (Release mic) to give control back.
- Use Remover (Remove) to take someone out of the room.
- To stop anyone else from joining, open Mais opções (More options) and click Trancar sala (Lock room). To open it again, click Destrancar sala (Unlock room).
- When you're done, under Mais opções (More options), click Encerrar para todos (End for everyone) and confirm with Encerrar reunião (End meeting).
The waiting room
With the Sala de espera (Waiting room) on, which is the default when you create a meeting, each person who opens the link is told the host needs to approve their entry. They only get in when you click Admitir (Admit). Anyone you decline sees a message that the host didn't approve their entry.
A personal email invite skips the access code, but not the waiting room. To send invites, see How to send a meeting invite by email.
Locking the room
Trancar sala (Lock room) blocks every new arrival, including people with the link, the code or an invite. They see a message that the host locked the room. The host can still get in. While the room is locked, the top of the meeting shows a padlock (Sala trancada, Room locked).
Ending the meeting
Encerrar para todos (End for everyone) asks you to confirm and warns that every participant will be disconnected from the room. After that, the meeting is Encerrada (Ended) and the link stops accepting people. You can also end it from the list with the Encerrar (End) button on the card. Sair da reunião (Leave meeting) takes only you out and leaves the room open.
Other handy controls
- Compartilhar tela (Share screen) and Parar compartilhamento (Stop sharing): show your computer screen to everyone.
- Copiar link da reunião (Copy meeting link): copies the link for anyone running late.
- Chat da reunião (Meeting chat): text messages for people who've been admitted.
- Destacar quem fala (Speaker view) or Mostrar grade (Grid view): changes how participants are shown.
If someone can't be heard or seen, send them Camera or microphone not working in a meeting.
Frequently asked questions
How do I join as the host?
Sign in to your LUME Hub account and click Entrar (Join) on the meeting card in My meetings. The room then recognizes you as the host, and you skip the waiting room.
Can a muted participant turn their mic back on?
Not until you allow it. Their mic button shows that the host muted them. To undo it, open Participants and use the release-mic button next to their name.
Can someone I removed come back?
The removed person sees a message that the host removed them. If they open the link again, they go through the waiting room again, if it's on. To block new arrivals entirely, lock the room.
What's the difference between leaving and ending the meeting?
Sair da reunião (Leave meeting) takes only you out of the room. Encerrar para todos (End for everyone) disconnects every participant and closes the meeting, so no one else can join.
