How to share a file link from LAWD Box (and send large files)
Updated
Quick answer
To share a file from LAWD Box, hover over it (on a phone the actions are already visible) and click the link icon, “Copiar link (7 dias)” (Copy link, 7 days). The link goes to your clipboard: paste it into a text or an email. Anyone who gets it can open the file without an account for 7 days.
A LAWD Box link is the fastest way to send someone a file, including a large one that won't fit as an email attachment. This tutorial shows how to copy the link, how long it lasts and how to stop sharing. The app is in Portuguese today, so labels appear with their meaning. If you haven't uploaded the file yet, see how to upload files and create folders.
Step by step
- Open LAWD Box at box.lawd.me and go to the file's folder.
- On a computer, hover over the file to see its actions. On a phone, they're already on the row.
- Click the chain icon, "Copiar link (7 dias)" (Copy link, 7 days).
- You'll see a message confirming the link was copied and that anyone with it can open the file for 7 days.
- Paste the link into a text, an email, a chat or anywhere else.
You can also copy the link from the preview: click an image, video or audio file and use "Copiar link" (Copy link), next to "Baixar" (Download).
How the link works
- Valid for 7 days: after that, it stops opening. To send it again, copy a new link.
- Opens without an account: the recipient sees the file in their browser and can download it.
- One file per link: folders don't have links. To send several files, copy a link for each.
- Works for large files: LAWD Box takes files up to 100 MB, far more than a LAWD Mail attachment, which tops out at 15 MB.
Sending a large file by email with a link
Want to email a video or a heavy presentation? Store it in LAWD Box, copy the link and paste it into the message body. The recipient downloads it straight from Box, with no attachment limit to hit. To attach smaller files directly from Box, see how to save email attachments and attach from LAWD Box.
How to stop sharing
The link points to the file with that name in that place. If you rename the file or move it to the trash, the old link stops opening. If you only want to extend the time, copy a new link.
Be careful with links
Anyone who has the link can open the file while it's valid, even if they got it from someone else. For sensitive documents, send it only to people who need it and, once they've downloaded it, rename the file to cut the link.
Your files stay private: without a link, no one sees what's in your Box. More in the LAWD Box guide.
Frequently asked questions
How long is a LAWD Box link valid?
For 7 days. After that it stops opening. To send the file again, copy a new link, which is valid for another 7 days.
Does the recipient need a LAWD account?
No. Anyone with the link can open the file in a browser while it's valid. So only send it to people who should see it.
Can I share a whole folder?
Not yet. Links are per file. To send several files, copy a link for each one.
How do I stop sharing before the 7 days are up?
Rename the file or move it to the trash. The link points to the file with that name in that place, so it stops opening.
