How to restore deleted files from the trash in LAWD Box
Updated
Quick answer
To restore a deleted file in LAWD Box, click “Lixeira” (Trash) in the corner of the screen, find the file and click the “Restaurar” (Restore) icon. It goes back to the folder it came from. The trash keeps what you delete for 30 days, then deletes it on its own; until then, those files still count toward your 1 GB.
Deleted a file by mistake? In LAWD Box it doesn't vanish right away: it goes to the trash and stays there for 30 days, ready to come back. This tutorial shows how to restore it, how to delete for good and how to free up space. The app is in Portuguese today, so labels appear with their meaning. For the rest of Box, see the LAWD Box guide.
How the trash works
When you click the trash icon next to a file or folder, you'll see "Foi para a lixeira." (Moved to trash) and the item leaves the list. It's kept in the "Lixeira" (Trash), with its original path, for 30 days. After that, LAWD Box deletes it on its own.
While it's in the trash, the file still counts toward your 1 GB. The screen itself says so: whatever stays in the trash for 30 days is deleted automatically and counts toward your 1 GB until then.
Step by step
- Open LAWD Box at box.lawd.me.
- Click "Lixeira" (Trash), on the right of the folder path line.
- Find the file or folder. If it was inside a folder, open that folder: the trash keeps the same structure as before.
- Click the arrow icon, "Restaurar" (Restore).
- A message confirms the item went back where it was. Click "Meu Box" (My Box) to check.
How to delete forever or empty the trash
- One item: inside the trash, click the file's trash icon ("Apagar para sempre", Delete forever) and confirm.
- Everything at once: click "Esvaziar lixeira" (Empty trash) at the top and confirm the question warning that the files will be gone for good. You'll see "Lixeira vazia." (Trash empty).
Both are permanent: the file can't come back. Use them when you need to free up space in your 1 GB.
If the file won't come back
- A file with that name already exists: the original location already has another file with the same name. Rename the one that's there and try restoring again.
- It's not in the trash: more than 30 days have passed or the trash was emptied. In that case it can't be recovered.
- A PDF in the trash: you can open and download it, but not annotate it. Restore it first to edit annotations.
A tip to avoid losing files
Files you get by email can go straight into Box, in their own folder. See how to save email attachments to LAWD Box. And to keep what stays organized, see how to upload files and create folders.
Frequently asked questions
How long do files stay in the trash?
For 30 days. After that LAWD Box deletes the file on its own and it can't be brought back.
Can I recover files after emptying the trash?
No. “Esvaziar lixeira” (Empty trash) and “Apagar para sempre” (Delete forever) remove files for good. That's why the screen asks you to confirm first.
Do files in the trash take up space?
Yes. Until they leave the trash, they count toward your 1 GB. To free up space right away, empty the trash.
Can I restore a whole folder?
Yes. Folders go to the trash with everything inside and come back the same way when you click “Restaurar” (Restore).
