What is LAWD Calendar? A free online calendar app explained

Updated

Quick answer

LAWD Calendar is the free online calendar that comes with your LAWD account, at agenda.lawd.me. You create timed or all-day events, switch between month and week view, invite people by email and sync everything with your phone's calendar app over CalDAV, using the same account as LAWD Mail.

LAWD Calendar is the calendar in your LAWD account: you schedule appointments, invite people and see everything on your computer and your phone. This guide covers what it does, what the screens look like and how to get started. The app is in Portuguese today, so labels appear here in Portuguese with their meaning.

Who is LAWD Calendar for?

LAWD Calendar is for anyone with a LAWD account, the same one behind the free @lawd.me email. Use it for meetings, appointments, deadlines and everyday reminders, at no cost and with no separate sign-up. If you already use LAWD Mail, your calendar is ready.

Don't have an @lawd.me address yet? See the LAWD Mail section to create your free account. If you open the calendar without an @lawd.me address, the screen asks you to choose one first.

Where to open the calendar

LAWD Calendar opens in three places, always with the same account:

  • agenda.lawd.me, the calendar's own address;
  • the app launcher on mail.lawd.me and box.lawd.me (the nine-dot button at the top, named "Apps"), or the left rail, under "Agenda" (Calendar);
  • inside LUME Hub, from the menu, if you already use the Hub.

Your session is shared across the LAWD addresses: once you sign in at mail.lawd.me, the calendar opens without asking for your password again.

What the calendar screen looks like

The controls sit at the top:

ControlWhat it does
"Criar" (Create)Opens a new event at the next full hour, one hour long
"Hoje" (Today)Jumps back to today
ArrowsGo to the previous or next month (or week)
"Mês" (Month) and "Semana" (Week)Switch the view

In month view, each day shows up to three events. When there are more, a "+2 mais" (+2 more) link appears; clicking it opens that week. Clicking a day's number creates an event on that day at 9 a.m.

In week view, hours run down the left and each day is a column. All-day events sit at the top, under the date. Clicking an empty time slot creates an event at that time. On a phone, the calendar opens in week view.

What an event holds

Each event has a title, a start and an end, a location (or meeting link), guests and a description. You can also check "Dia inteiro" (All day) for birthdays, holidays and trips, including multi-day ones. Times use your device's time zone. The full walkthrough is in how to create a calendar event.

To change an event, click it: the "Editar evento" (Edit event) window opens with "Salvar" (Save) and "Apagar" (Delete).

Email invitations

When you add email addresses as guests, the LAWD server sends each person an invitation in the standard calendar invitation format. They can reply from their own email or calendar app. When you change or delete the event, guests are notified too. See how to send a calendar invite.

Your calendar on your phone

Events live on the LAWD mail server, which speaks CalDAV, the open calendar standard. That means you can connect LAWD Calendar to the calendar app on iPhone or Android with an app password, and what you create in one place shows up in the other. The full path is in how to sync the calendar on iPhone and Android. To understand the standard, read what is CalDAV.

How to get started

  1. Get your free @lawd.me address.
  2. Open agenda.lawd.me and sign in with your @lawd.me or the other email on your account.
  3. Click "Criar" (Create) and add your first appointment.
  4. If you like, connect the calendar to your phone.

Your files live in another app on the same account, LAWD Box.

Frequently asked questions

Is LAWD Calendar free?

Yes. LAWD Calendar costs nothing and uses the same free account as LAWD Mail, with your @lawd.me address.

Do I need a separate account for the calendar?

No. The calendar uses your LAWD account, the same one as LAWD Mail and LAWD Box. If you don't have an @lawd.me address yet, the screen asks you to pick one before the calendar opens.

Which views does LAWD Calendar have?

Month view and week view. On a phone, the calendar opens in week view, which fits the screen better.

Do the people I invite need a LAWD account?

No. The invitation goes to their email in the standard calendar invitation format, so it works with Gmail, Outlook and other services.

Can I see my calendar on my phone?

Yes. Open agenda.lawd.me in your phone's browser, or connect the calendar to your phone's calendar app over CalDAV with an app password.
