LUME Cortex won't open on Mac: causes and fixes

Updated

Quick answer

When LUME Cortex won't open, it's almost always macOS blocking the first launch: go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. Also check that your Mac has Apple silicon and macOS 26, that the app is in your Applications folder, and that you sign in with your LUME Hub account.

Most of the time, LUME Cortex won't open for a simple reason: macOS holds back the first launch of any app downloaded from the internet. Below are the causes, from most to least common, with what to do for each.

1. Your Mac blocked the first launch

The first time you open LUME Cortex, your Mac warns that it couldn't verify the app and won't open it. That's expected.

What to do: open System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll to the notice about LUME Cortex and click Open Anyway. Confirm if your Mac asks. You only do this once; after that, the app opens normally and updates itself.

2. The app isn't in your Applications folder

The download is a .zip file. Installation means opening that file and dragging LUME Cortex into your Applications folder.

What to do: redo the install as described in how to download and install LUME Cortex on Mac and open the app from Applications.

3. Your Mac isn't supported

LUME Cortex needs a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer) and macOS 26. Intel Macs and older macOS versions can't run the app.

What to do: check your chip and system version under Apple menu › About This Mac. If you're on a macOS version older than 26 and your Mac supports the update, update it. On an Intel Mac, Cortex doesn't work.

4. You're on a Windows PC

LUME Cortex doesn't have a Windows version yet. There's no installer for PC.

5. Sign-in fails

Cortex uses your LUME Hub account: the same email and password. There's no separate Cortex account.

What to do: make sure you're using the email of your Hub account. If you forgot your password, reset it from the Hub, as explained in the Account and billing section, then try again in the app.

6. The download button doesn't show

On the Cortex screen in LUME Hub, the message "O download sai em breve." (the download is coming soon) means the file for that version isn't available yet. Check back later.

If the LUME Cortex (Mac) item is missing from the menu, you may be on another company's white-label dashboard or signed in as a team member of another account. In those cases the item is hidden. Sign in to LUME Hub with your own account.

The link on a team edit request ("Abrir no Cortex", Open in Cortex) only works with LUME Cortex installed. If the app opens but can't find the request, it may belong to another account: sign in to Cortex with the account the request was made for. Canceled requests don't come back to the list.
